"Crow Sky" and "Short and Sweet": Two New Works

Posted

Happy New Year! The snow has been falling steadily here in our little corner of Montana, and the blanket of white is beautiful. I send you all wishes for a new year filled with much Peace, Good Health, and Happiness.

I have recently completed 2 new works for "'The Russell': An Exhibition and Sale to Benefit The C.M. Russell Museum", that I want to highlight in this blog post. Both of these paintings will be available during the events of "The Russell" and the one and only Western Art Week in Great Falls, Montana, March 18th through March 21st, 2015. We hope to see you all in Great Falls during this very special week of celebrating Western Art, in the "Russell Country" of Montana!

"Crow Sky" is a 48" x 72" oil on canvas, and is the largest painting I have done to date. It will be available during the Live Auction of "The Russell" on Saturday evening, March 21st, 2015. I have grown up in Montana near the Crow Tribe, and this work is done in honor of their people, their traditions, and one of their annual celebrations,"Crow Fair". Each year this celebration is typically held the third week of August, on land surrounding the Little Big Horn River near Billings, Montana. The sky in Montana really can be this blue. I wanted to capture the Montana sky as I most fondly remember it, in all of my years spent here. If you've never been, you really should visit Crow Fair, and Montana, in August. It's a magnificent time of the year to come and stay a spell.

"Short and Sweet" is a 36" x 36" oil on panel, and will be available during the Live Auction of "The Russell" on Friday evening, March 20th, 2015. I wanted this painting to focus on the bond between a mare and her foal, and the intrinsic interaction between them. It is less about color, and more about movement, and emotion. I have loved horses for as far back as I can remember, and there is rarely a day that goes by that I do not find myself immersed in studying, sketching, thinking about, or painting, them. They are a grounding source of inspiration and calmness, and I am grateful for the chance to explore them in my work.

I am currently working away on a new body of work, that will be displayed in my exhibit as a Russell Skull Society Artist, March 18th through March 21st at the Mansfield Convention Center, as part of the celebration of the C.M. Russell Museum's events and Western Art Week. I am truly honored to be one of the 22 members of the Russell Skull Society of Artists. I will post these new works to my website, later in February as they begin to emerge from my studio!

I will also have new works exhibited in the Samarah Fine Art Gallery's showroom, at the Out West Art Show & Sale, during this extraordinary celebration of Western Art Week, March 18th through March 21st, in Great Falls, Montana. Samarah Fine Art's owner, Rob Stern, and I go way back, to the days of grade school. I am honored to have my paintings represented in his Whitefish, Montana gallery, and to be a part of his showroom exhibit at this extraordinary Western Art Week event. The Out West Art Show & Sale will feature 110 Exhibit Rooms, over 10 premier Gallery Showrooms, and over 140 exhibiting artists. I will be posting my new works for this exhibit later in February, and new details for a gallery reception at the Best Western Heritage Inn will follow soon!

Western Art Week in Great Falls, Montana, 2015....come and visit, meet the artists, and experience a little of the Great American West in Art. I hope to see you there!
